Builder Levels
Within the PKCoB there are five levels of advancement: Licensed, Apprentice, Journeyman, Master, and Grand Master. If a character has the intention to practice in their caste, then they must get their “license” and follow the outlined procedures to move up the ranks demonstrating their knowledge and skill. The required logs of learning/practice must be submitted based upon the project determined by the mentor. It will be from this pool of licensed members that may submit ship registrations and be contracted for city building projects given they meet the correct requirements for the project required.
Licensed
Carpenters, masons and all other building subcastes not pertaining to the ranks of Shipwrights or Architects who practice will be listed simply as "licensed" after submitting their one log. If either a mason or a carpenter wishes to become a Shipwright or Architect, then they must complete the outlined training, demonstrating sufficient skill to achieve that title and move up the ranks. Members at this level may not hold any chair.
Apprenticeship
The apprentice will be required to submit three logs of building, sending them into his / her Mentor (Instructor), Appropriate Training Chair (Shipwrights - 2nd, Non Shipwrights - 3rd) & Caste Scribe. These records ideally may be sent in one per month (one week IRL). At the end of the three months (3 weeks IRL) period of apprenticeship, if all logs are submitted and are reviewed and found to be satisfactorily to standards, the apprentice will be then promoted to Journeyman status.
* Note - If an apprentice is inactive for his/her training period of three months (3 mun weeks), the apprentice will be given a fourth month (one additional mun week) with a warning (We understand mun stuff happens); and, if after that fourth month (additional mun week) the apprentice is still inactive or has not made any correspondence to the leadership, or any attempt to send in required logs, the apprentice will then be removed from the PKCoB apprentice roster. The apprentice may also find themselves listed as inactive in the caste per caste guidelines. No apprentice will be permitted to be a mentor. You are in training and as such will not be permitted to train another. Apprentices may not hold any chair.
Journeyman
The Journeyman will be required to maintain active work in their building field for the period of four years (one mun year) and remain in good standing with the PKCoB. In order for the journeyman to achieve the rank of Master, the journeyman must mentor at least one (munned) apprentice during or after the four year (one mun year) period.
* Note - A Journeyman may only mentor one apprentice at a time. The journeyman must also notify the appropriate chair(s) that the requirements for promotion have been met. If the journeyman successfully mentors an apprentice within the first three years (9 mun months) of attaining journeyman rank, the promotion will not take effect until the full four years (1 mun year) is over.
Master Shipwright
The Master will be required to aide and hand down his / her knowledge to those that require the assistance. The Master at this point is the fountain of information that can and will feed the rest of the caste. Master level members may have an NPC apprentice; however, if called upon to mentor a new apprentice, the NPC will be given up as the Master will only be permitted to mentor one apprentice at a time.
Note: Per the guidelines established in the Ship Registries (SRoG, AoG, and PKSR) Master Shipwrights and their apprentices (NPC or played) may both register ships. Only Master level members or higher may be nominated and elected to chair positions.
Grand Master
A Grand Master is a builder that has achieved Master status in both disciplines of Shipwright and Architect. As with the Master, the Grand Master will be required to aide and hand down his/her knowledge to those that require the assistance. The Grand Master is a fountain of information that can and will feed the rest of the caste. Grand Masters may have have an NPC apprentice; however, if called upon to mentor a new apprentice, the NPC will be given up as the Grand Master will only be permitted to mentor one apprentice at a time.
Note: If a Shipwright or Architect wishes to cross-train in order to achieve the rank of Grand Master (Master rank as a shipwright and Master rank as an architect), they must complete the outlined training to achieve the appropriate ranking in the skills they do not have proficiency in. (A Master shipwright/architect seeking to also be an architect/shipwright would first start out as an apprentice, then journeyman, and finally master, completing each stage as outlined. No new application would need to be submitted, but the appropriate chair should be notified and play checked for approval.)
Caste Scribe:
The Caste Scribe handles all communications and records for the Builders Caste as directed by the caste chairs.
Guidelines for Caste Scribe
1. If the caste scribe needs to take leave from the position for whatever reason (IC or OOC), he or she must submit his or her resignation so as to not hold up caste business.
Note: an example of an IC reason would be extended travel and time away from the city for longer than a two mun week period unrelated to other work as a scribe. It is understood that some scribes serve more than one caste or person, if that is the case... for example the scribe also serves as the emissary's scribe or the scribe to the ambassador and needs to travel for city related business, an exception may be made.
2. An announcement will be placed then within the proper channels of the city for applicants to fill the vacant position.
3. The Caste as a whole will choose the new caste scribe from the applicant pool.
Definition of terms as they apply to the PKCoB
